Scottish Highland Elopement

Darren and Zoe

Scottish Highland Elopement Photography

There’s something quietly intimate about elopements and Zoe and Darren’s wedding near Argyll, perfectly reminded me why I love Scottish elopement photography. With just the two of them, the registrar, her assistant, and myself, their day unfolded simply and beautifully on the banks of Loch Long—a perfect example of how small celebrations can be so special.

Darren & Zoe

Darren and Zoe chose a charming Air B&B just outside Arrochar, as both the setting for their ceremony and their first-night retreat. Surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Scottish Highlands , it was an ideal backdrop for Highlands elopement photography. Even when the weather threatened to intervene, as it so often does in this part of Scotland, it only added to the atmosphere, creating a sense of drama and romance.

A Rare Moment

One of the moments that will stay with me happened right at the end of the ceremony. A single shaft of sunlight broke through the clouds, highlighting exactly where Zoe and Darren stood, almost as if nature had planned it. Moments like these are why I love photographing elopements with the fleeting, magical details that make each day unique.  As always in the Highlands, the storm clouds weren’t that far behind.

Quick Dash

We made a quick dash to a nearby beach and I captured some beautiful moody shots of the Darren and Zoe by the loch. Moments later the rain moved in, so we retreated to the Air B&B to sit it out. As a Scottish Highlands elopement photographer, I always do a recce of locations in advance , which meant we were ready to continue as soon as the skies cleared.

When the rain passed, we headed to a picturesque old stone bridge I’d discovered earlier. Framed by the mountains, the scene was perfect and the shots captured Zoe and Darren perfectly against a wild Highland backdrop.

A Privilege to Witness

Being asked to serve as both photographer and witness was a true privilege. Days like this remind me how personal and emotional elopements can be. Zoe and Darren’s wedding was a perfect example of why I love Scottish elopement photography: authentic emotion, intimate moments, and the raw beauty of the Highlands coming together in a way that feels unforgettable.

For their wedding day, I put together a bespoke two-hour photography package. While this isn’t part of my standard wedding offerings, I can arrange similar elopement sessions on request, or for celebrations taking place within six months. Below is a selection of photos from Zoe and Darren’s elopement, edited down to about 50 images from the full set of 100 for easier viewing.

I’m always happy to meet up or have a Zoom chat so please get in touch if you’d like to find out more.
