A Relaxed Wedding at Glenskirlie Castle

As a Glasgow wedding photographer, I was thrilled to photograph a wedding at Glenskirlie Castle. I thought it was my first time but I actually captured a wedding here around 15 years ago before the current purpose-built castle replaced the previous venue. Despite being new, the castle has real character and the rear gardens provide fantastic opportunities for castle wedding photography. These spaces were ideal for my relaxed, natural style—exactly what Lynsey and Alwis wanted for their special day. I’d previously photographed them for their pre-wedding shoot, so by the time their wedding day came we already knew each other quite well.

‘We love the photographs Richard did for our engagement and wedding. We don’t enjoy posed photos so Richard’s natural, candid style was ideal for us. He photographed so many beautiful moments during our wedding day and we didn’t even notice he was there.  Even the more formal family group shots were relaxed and fun. We’re grateful to have  so many beautiful memories and photographs to look back on!’

Getting Ready at Home – Matching PJ’s and Candids

The day began at Lynsey’s parents’ house where she was getting ready with her bridesmaids. After greeting everyone, I started with detail shots of her dress , flowers, and shoes before capturing natural, candid moments as she prepared for the day. The sunny morning allowed us to use the garden for some fun shots of Lynsey and her bridesmaids in their matching PJ’s, which added a relaxed, joyful start to the day.

Sensitive and Unobtrusive Church Ceremony

The ceremony took place at the Baptist Church in Falkirk, about 15 minutes away. I spoke with the minister beforehand to understand any restrictions and fortunately, there were none as long as I maintained distance. As a wedding photographer in Glasgow, being unobtrusive during the ceremony is essential—sometimes ministers or celebrants allow photographers close but I always aim to capture the moment without disrupting it.

Quiet Time Together in the Castle Gardens

After the ceremony, we drove to Glenskirlie Castle, where the forecast had promised mixed sun and showers. Luckily, there was beautiful sunlight in the back gardens when we arrived. Lynsey and Alwis had a brief wait while guests arrived, so we used that time for a private couple’s photoshoot. This gave them a few peaceful moments together, while I captured relaxed, natural portraits. Once everyone had arrived , we quickly arranged family shots and a confetti photo outside the castle before heading inside for the speeches and meal.

Capturing Speeches and Castle Atmosphere

Wedding speeches are always a highlight—they’re full of laughter, heartfelt stories and the occasional embarrassing anecdote. The castle atmosphere added to the day’s charm. After the meal, I took a few portraits of Lynsey and Alwis on the castle stairs to make the most of the evening light and the venue’s character.

Evening Reception Fun

The evening reception was fantastic. Following their first dance,  everyone joined the dance floor creating a lively atmosphere. In order to capture the moment, I had to stand on a chair but the energy and fun made for some incredible shots.
