When looking for wedding photographers in Glasgow, the most important thing for Kelsey and David was to have their wedding photography in a relaxed, natural candid style, so they could enjoy a chilled day with family and friends.
As a wedding photographer, this is also important to me as it means that my style is exactly what a couple are looking for. The Crutherland House Hotel, near Glasgow is ideal for this as it has lots of natural woodland and parkland close to the hotel as well as good features and facilities at the hotel itself.
‘Richard was absolutely amazing. He made us feel so relaxed and caught all the little moments that were so important to us. We love looking back on our wedding photos. It’s difficult to pick a favourite one as they all amazing! Richard made us feel calm and captured the best candids from our day. They were exactly what we were looking for and he stayed in contact with us the full way and always checked in. We got all out photos back just 3 weeks after the wedding. Our friends and family loved that they could look through the link and order any that they also loved. Would 100% recommend Richard. We are so happy to have booked him for our wedding!’
Kelsey and David
The day started with Kelsey getting ready in the hotel with her bridesmaids and her dog! I’m often asked if I mind photographing dogs at wedding and I love it. They always add a bit of fun and spontaneity and help everyone relax on the day and this was no exception. It was a really chilled morning and I was able to get lots of great candid shots of everyone. Later on, Kelsey and David’s two sons arrived as well as some of the bridesmaids’ children. The bridal suite looks out over the lawns at the front of the Crutherland Hotel where the hotel staff were setting up chairs for the ceremony and they were all fascinated to watch what was going on, which made for some great natural, candid photographs.
David also was getting ready with his best man and groomsmen in the hotel, so I was able to pop between the two rooms and get some shots of them as well.
Here Comes The Sun
The weather had been a bit unpredictable with some rain in the morning but by the time of the ceremony the sun had come out. It was still a little windy but not enough to spoil a lovely ceremony at the front of the hotel. Afterwards, it was time for a few family group photos before spending some time with Kelsey and David. I always advise trying to keep the group photos to the wedding party so the whole afternoon isn’t taken up by posing for shots. There is always time during the afternoon to capture groups of fiends and other relatives in a more relaxed way.
Wild Meadows
Although I knew the Crutherland Hotel quite well (having had my own wedding reception there), I always like to do a recce prior to a wedding to look for the best areas to take photos. This can change from season to season and different weather, so I always like to take this into account. I’d spotted a wild meadow just beyond the hotel lawns which I thought would be perfect, so I asked Kelsey and David to walk along there. The lighting was perfect and they were such a relaxed couple that I was able to concentrate on capturing them together and let them enjoy the moment, only briefly suggesting a few things to them. After that, they headed back to the hotel where I spent the rest of the afternoon taking natural candid photographs while they relaxed and chatted to friends and family.
Evening Light
After the speeches and the meal, there was a little spare time before the evening reception. I’d popped out earlier to check the light and noticed some amazing evening light coming through the trees at the end of the drive, so I suggested we popped down there for some evening photos. As before, it was a question of choosing the right spot and encouraging Kelsey and David to enjoy the moment rather than think of it as a photo shoot. These were some of my favourites from the day. After that is was the cutting of the cake and the first few dances and the end to a perfect day.
